The Role of Social Media in Environmental Advocacy & Activism (PhD research proposal)
This research explores the significant role social media platforms play in shaping environmental movements, influencing public opinion, and impacting policy decisions. By examining how social media facilitates collective action around environmental issues, this study identifies both the strengths and limitations of these platforms in mobilizing and engaging diverse audiences. The research employs a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of social media data with qualitative interviews and case studies of notable environmental movements. Findings reveal that while social media enhances visibility and fosters community engagement, challenges such as misinformation and platform limitations also hinder effective activism. Ultimately, this study aims to provide insights into how different social media platforms cater to distinct forms of environmental activism and contribute to the broader discourse on sustainability and environmental justice.
